Twilight eases day into a starrynight at CraterLake NationalPark in Oregon. The park’s signature whitebark pine trees --pictured here -- are found along the rim of this collapsed volcano, or caldera, and can grow to be centuries old. Comment from U.S. Department of the Interior:

FantasyCanyon is a postage-stamp sized area located about an hour south of Vernal, Utah. It makes up for its small size by presenting one of the most unusual erosional landscapes in North America. First discovered in 1909 by paleontologist Earl Douglass, Fantasy Canyon’s rocks are quartzose sandstones and date from around 38 to 50 million years ago. Today’s geologic formations of Fantasy Canyon will eventually topple from weather and erode into sand, but new formations will appear as the surrounding soil washes away. The best times to visit the area are morning and evening from spring through fall. Photo by Bob Wick, @mypubliclands. usinterior

Winter fog blankets the valleys of the Jim Sage Mountains at City of Rocks National Reserve in Idaho. Travelers on the California Trail described the rocks here in vivid detail as "a city of tall spires,” “steeple rocks" and "the silent city." Today, this backcountry byway attracts rock climbers, campers, hikers and hunters. Enjoy inspirational scenery, exceptional opportunities for geologic study and interesting stories of the people who lived and traveled through this beautiful land. Uniquely situated around the 500 square miles that make up Tucson, Arizona, Saguaro NationalPark protects the enormous saguaro cactus. @nationalpark is busiest this time of year when temperatures are cooler, ranging from the high 50s to mid-70s. Starting in late February and March, a variety of cacti and wildflowers begin to bloom. Sunset photo by Michel Hersen (www.sharetheexperience.org). findyourpark usinterior

Storm clouds color the sky above Everglades NationalPark in Florida. Vast and unique, the park encourages exploration and discovery. In a place where a few inches of elevation can make a huge difference, visitors can kayak on quiet sloughs and marshes or hike through pinelands or scenic coastal lowlands. A visit to Yellowstone NationalPark ( @yellowstonenps) in Wyoming creates memories that last a lifetime. During a recent trip, Josh Packer’s ( @packtography) first time at Moose Falls didn’t disappoint. "Arriving just before sunset, the lighting was perfect on the snow-covered trees. I could have spent all day listening to this waterfall in this winter wonderland." It’s moments like these why Josh is taking the YellowstonePledge to ensure that others will be able to enjoy this special place in the future, and we hope you join him. For more than 700 years, the Ancestral Puebloan people called what is now MesaVerde NationalPark home. Their dwellings -- elaborate stone communities -- blend into the sheltered alcoves of Colorado’s canyon walls. A colossal tribute to four of our greatest presidents, MountRushmore National Memorial in SouthDakota captivates and overwhelms nearly 3 million visitors a year. Most popular during the summer, we think PresidentsDay is a perfect time of year to feature this remarkable park. Say hi to Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt when you go! Zion NationalPark in Utah boasts some of the most scenic landscapes in the southwestern U.S. Within its 229 square miles are high plateaus, a maze of deep sandstone canyons and the gorgeous Virgin River. The soft scents of pine and juniper drift on the air. A winter sunset coloring the sky above this dramatic scene is an unforgettable experience. When visiting Alaska’s Denali NationalPark ( @denalinps), be sure to look up for a chance to glimpse the NorthernLights. Also known as the auroraborealis, these fantastic displays of color occur when a massive burst of solar wind and magnetic fields interact with Earth's atmosphere. Different colors depend on whether electrons collide with atoms of oxygen (red/green) and nitrogen (blue/purple) and the altitude at which these collisions occur. Comment from U.S. Department of the Interior:

Bon Secour National WildlifeRefuge encompasses some of Alabama’s last remaining undisturbed coastal barrier habitat. The name Bon Secour is French for “safe harbor,” very appropriate considering the sanctuary it provides for native flora and fauna. This refuge is a natural oasis of wildlands, where wildlife can exist without harm. It may be too cold to go in the water, but even in winter, a walk on the beach can be a beautiful experience. @Sequoiakingsnps are the land of giants with huge mountains, deep canyons and the world’s largest trees. It can be hard to appreciate the size of the giant sequoias -- the largest are as tall as an average 26-story building, and their diameters at the base exceed the width of many city streets. Explore this special place and all other public lands with free entrance on Monday for Presidents’ Day. These two little red foxes snuggle at Maine’s Acadia National Park are beyond cute! Did you know: A mother fox gives birth to a litter of 2-12 kits, which the parents raise together. When the kits are about seven months old, they’re ready to strike out on their own. For more photos of animals in love, check out DOI.gov. It’s that time of year again when visitors flock to Yosemite NationalPark to see the famous HorsetailFall -- the waterfall that looks like lava flowing down the side of El Capitan. This rare phenomenon only happens for a short time in February (if the conditions are perfect) when the setting sun’s rays hit the waterfall at just the right angle, illuminating the water in brilliant reds and oranges. It’s a spectacular sight reminiscent of @yosemitenps's historic Firefall! Photo courtesy of Ray Lee ( @rayophotography13). findyourpark usinterior
