Comment from ChrisBurkard:

Don't be fooled by the bright green sky & stars.. this night was dark... like really dark. Which made surfing in 10F feel impossible. Camera technology can be deceiving. What you can see through a camera is far beyond what you can view with the naked eye these days. During the filming of "Under An Arctic Sky" I shot almost exclusively with the @sonyalpha A7SII because of its low light sensitivity. Often shooting between ISO 3200 -40,000... yes that's correct .. 40,000. When paired with the right lenses you can literally see in darkness. . A few images from my limited edition book that goes along with the film. Available now on Kickstarter http://kck.st/2ldrcuw or in my bio.

Being able to share my films & photographs with the world has always been my greatest goal. So I’m proud to release the Kickstarter for my film Under an Arctic Sky. We are pre- selling the film to fund a world tour and deciding where to take it based on those who support it. From the beginning we wanted this film to be about our connection to wild places and the relationships we forge there. I can’t think of a better way to share that message than through slideshows/ film screenings / Q&As before it goes for sale online. . Thanks for all your support thus far! It's been over a year in the making .... and we are finally getting down the last final months. Tomorrow morning I'm releasing a Kickstarter for my Film to support a Worldwide film tour & pre- sale of the film & book. My dream has always been to share this with the world in person. Old school film screenings with Slideshows & storytelling. We wanted you to help decide where it gets shown & get early access to the film before it goes for sale online. In the end this project wouldn't even be possible without your support! Stay tuned! . To see the trailer ... check out www.UnderAnArcticSky.com or my bio link 🙌🏼✌🏼🙏🏼

The rewards of living near the edge your comfort zone. That word comfort brings back a great memory when I look at this photo.. after this trip in the Canadian backcountry I couldn't feel my big toes for over a month. Comment from ChrisBurkard:

These last few storms in California have been a massive wake up call for me to be a bit more prepared. I've traveled many places with hostile weather & been ready for it but typically became complacent upon returning home to a place with traditionally mild weather. But the last few days have left me & the family with no electricity, water and even access to our house at times for almost 4 days. On my street alone 20+ eucalyptus measuring from 80-120ft in length fell across the road into houses and power lines. It's a mixture of shallow rooted trees in oversaturated soil and gale force wind. In reality it's nothing compared to people that deal with this type of thing everyday. But I've taken it as a wake up call to never underestimate nature and hopefully be a bit more prepared. . The last time I saw this much rain in California it snowed right along the coast.

It's usually the details that make a photo great in my eyes. Like this small thriving tree rooted to a steep 45deg rock face. Nature is by far my favorite artist... and the fact that we can experience it with our eyes, lungs, ears and hands is something that leaves me always grateful.

Some things you just gotta see for yourself. Tokositna Glacier, Denali National Park. . When I shoot aerial photographs I prefer to be in a small plane with good window access or open door. The Cessna 172 is a personal favorite with its large open windows and overhead wing that make shooting down easy. When it comes to cameras.. the stabilized censor of the @sonyalpha A7II or A7RII has been my go to for working in tight spaces and windy conditions. I only bring two lenses a 16-35mm and 24-70mm and the shutter speed is typically higher than normal to compensate for vibration. The best secret to success is a good pilot 😉👌🏼 @prana @goalzero

When I was young I thought the word environmental activist was reserved for older men wearing short khaki shorts, fanny packs & binoculars romping around the wilderness after they had retired. I was way wrong. . The truth is that really anyone can speak for the environment simply by what we share & post everyday. Is the new era of conservationists kids armed with cell phones?.. probably not.. but using these platforms as a pulpit to preach what you love is a step in the right direction.
